My Story

Angie is a Japanese-American cellist based in London. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree with Honours from the Royal College of Music, where she studied under the renowned cellist Raphael Wallfisch. At thirteen, she began studying with Tchaikovsky Competition winner Nathaniel Rosen, and is also a Dean’s List graduate of the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division, where she studied with Ole Akahoshi.

 

Angie has received numerous accolades, including the Jury Award from the Tokyo International Association of Artists and the Honour Award at the Cecilia International Competition. She also received the Director’s Choice Award and the Elan Award for her leadership in the ISSH Orchestra in Tokyo. In 2015, with a scholarship, she was one of only three cellists selected for the Early Education Project at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and in 2019, she became the youngest guest artist to perform at the Chofu International Music Festival. More recently, she was invited on scholarship to attend a masterclass with Mischa Maisky at the Stauffer Accademia in Cremona. In 2024, representing Japan, she had the honour of welcoming His Majesty Emperor Naruhito during his state visit to the Royal College of Music.

 

As an orchestral performer, Angie has appeared in prestigious venues including Suntory Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall. She has performed under esteemed conductors such as Jac van Steen, Sir Andrew Davis, Martyn Brabbins, and Chloe van Soeterstede. In 2025, she collaborated with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe as a member of the RCM Chamber Orchestra. She has served as principal cellist for the Kanto Plain Orchestra in Japan, the RCM Opera Orchestra, and the RCM Philharmonic Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she has also worked with the Marmen Quartet and Quartetto di Cremona in masterclasses and coaching sessions.

 

Angie currently serves as a Music Teacher and Orchestral Mentor at Hounslow Music Service Ltd, and teaches cello at several schools across London. She works with students of all ages and levels, from young beginners to adult learners. Passionate about making music education accessible to all, Angie is especially committed to helping children from underserved backgrounds discover the joy of music. She regularly mentors the Sue Hadley Orchestra and previously supported the Tri-Borough Symphonic Band for several years. Alongside her teaching, she continues to perform as a freelancer in orchestras and give recitals throughout London, sharing her love of music with diverse audiences.
